About Us
LKC stands for Leon and Kim Castro—my husband and me. Our beekeeping journey began in 2017, sparked by a deep curiosity and a heartfelt desire to learn more about the small yet mighty creatures God so beautifully designed. After completing a beekeeping class, I immersed myself in everything I could find—studying hive dynamics, structure, and the remarkable, selfless way bees care for one another. Their role in sustaining life, their precision, and the gift of honey completely captivated me. That same year, Leon and I welcomed our very first hive—and beekeeping quickly became about much more than just honey.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease. After countless ER visits, rounds of medications, and discouraging treatments, I began researching the healing properties of raw honey. As I navigated the emotional and physical toll of kidney failure and dialysis, the bees gave me something I hadn’t felt in a long time: purpose.
In 2023, I received a life-saving kidney transplant from a living donor. As my body slowly began to heal, so did our beekeeping journey, blossoming from a single hive into ten thriving colonies. It felt like new life was unfolding all around me.
What started as a simple spark of curiosity has grown into a true calling. And through every season, I believe with all my heart that while I’ve been caring for the bees, they’ve been quietly caring for me.
I am endlessly grateful—to the honey bees, to this journey, and above all, to God, who so often uses the smallest of His creations to restore life and remind us of His goodness.
Now, with renewed health and a deeper passion than ever, we've felt called to share what we've learned with others. What began as a personal journey has grown into a mission- to educate, inspire, and equip others to discover the beauty of beekeeping for themselves.
We're excited to announce that we are now offering informational bee classes and hands-on, interactive beekeeping training right here in Normangee, Texas. Our grand opening is July 12th 2025, and we can't wait to welcome you into the world of bees.
Whether you're just curious or ready to start your own hive, we hope to be a resource and a place of encouragement for you- just as the bees have been for us.
